Partnership for Safe Water

The PA-AWWA Partnership for Safe Drinking Water (PfSW) program is pleased to welcome a new member, the Authority of the Borough of Charleroi (ABC). The Authority of the Borough of Charleroi has always had a dedicated staff to produce the highest water quality possible for their customers. In continuing with that philosophy, they have decided to use the Partnership for Safe Water Programs for Treatment and Distribution to further optimize their operations.

ABC produces on average over 3 million gallons a day of potable water serving nearly 27,000 residents through approximately 11,000 connections in Charleroi Borough and surrounding municipalities. Their treatment consists of rapid mix, flocculation, and settling which is then applied to Suez/Zenon ZW500D membranes. The Authority maintains over 192 miles of transmission and distribution line with 10 water storage facilities.

The Partnership program allows a utility to use a guided, self-assessment approach to evaluate operational procedures to determine where there may be possibilities for future optimization.
